Shelton Captures Single Qualifying Spot for USGA

Mike Shelton, 56 of Belton, MO fired a 3-under par
69 to lead all qualifiers and earn the only qualifiying spot for
the USGA Senior Amateur. Shelton's round included six birdies
and heading into the 418 yard par 4 No. 17 he was 5-under par.
Rich Gleghorn, 56 of Springfield and Randy Apgar, 56 of Kansas City
both shot even par 72 and tied for the first alternates position.
Gleghon pared the first play-off hole as Apgar found the trees off
his tee shot and ended up making bogey.
Shelton will play in the USGA Senior Amateur Championship
September 20-25 at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth.
Shady Oaks was the home club to legend Ben Hogan.
