Tour Veteran Stevens Medalist

Tour perennial power Aaron Stevens of Shawnee used eight birdies today in route to an impressive 4-under par 68 to take top honors in the Open Division at WinterStone Golf Course.  Steven's score is the lowest gross score for the season on the Tour and came on a day that proved to be highly competitive for all divisions.  Right behind Stevens was Kurt Lorenzen who also had an extremely solid round with an 3-under par 69.  Lorenzen hopes to continue his strong play as he will play in the US Amateur Public Links Championship next month at Murphey Creek Golf Course in Aurora Colorado.  There were a total of five rounds of even par or less in the Open Division.

In the Senior Open Division, Dana Harris of Overland Park, Mark Addington of Olathe, and Tom Leonard of Leawood all shot a one over par 73 to share top honors.  Addington's round was highlighted by an eagle on the 536 yard par 5 16th hole.

Tour rookie Robert Fernquist or Warrensburg won his second event of the season in the Players Division gross scoring with a 2-under par 70 performance.  David Kirschbaum of Kansas City and Steve Hammond of Parkville tied for second with 2-over par 74's.  In net scoring Pat Goeke continued his hot streak as he once again won the flight with a 6-under par 66.  Fernquist's round was also good enough for a second place finish with a 5-under par 67.

In the Legends Division gross scoring, Grant Renne of Prairie Village and Don Cox of Lake Quivira shared top honors with 3-over par 75's.  In net scoring, Tour rookie Craig Jorgensen enjoyed his first victory on Tour with a 4-under par 68.  Renne along with Ron Cogdill and Dean Goeking came in second place, two shots behind Jorgensen.

There are 19 spots available for the next  event on Wednesday, July 2 at Falcon Ridge Golf Club.  Click here to enter Falcon Ridge or other upcoming StateLine Amateur Tour events.
