Once the fog lifted early this
morning at Swope Memorial Golf Course so did Andy Smith's play. Despite being delayed 30 minutes off of the first
tee, Smith a Gladstone native, won his
first StateLine Amateur Tour event of the season while shooting a
2-under par 70 in which he was aided by four birdies on the front
nine. Finishing behind Smith for second place was a host of
fellow competitors which included; Mark Hanrahan, Randy Apgar, Rob
Gleissner, and Mark Crow. The quartet all shot an even par 72.
In the Open Division Drew Carlson
of Mission Hills and Charlie Tholl of Prairie Village tied for top
honors with a 1-under par 71 performance. The victory was
Carlson's and Tholl's first on Tour.
Steve Hammond of Parkville once
again finished atop the leader board in the Players Division.
He tied with James Isleib of Leawood for the gross scoring crown
with a 3-over par 75. Hammond also finished in a tie for the
top honors in net scoring after shooting a 1-under par 71.
Joining the double winner was Dale Hotop of Lone Jack and Pat Goeke
of Paola.
After an uncharacteristic
performance at Falcon Lakes Golf Course two weeks ago Grant Renne of
Prairie Village showed again why he is regarded as the best Legends
Division players on the Tour. Renne, along with Al Neal of
Kansas City and Tim Jackson of Leawood finished in a three way tie
for the victory in gross scoring with a 3-over par 75. In net
scoring Duke Duggan of Lee's Summit went deep today with an 8-under
par 64. Behind Duggan was Dean Buford with an impressive
6-under par 66 for the rookies highest ever finish on Tour.
