Leonard Takes Top Honors

For Tom Leonard of Leawood to have the low score in his pairing group today was a feat.  Leonard's 2-under par 70 was good enough to edge out playing partners Gary Noble's and Ron Eilers' 1-over par 73 for low honors in the group and the Senior Open Division field today at the StateLine Amateur Tour event at Falcon Ridge Golf Club.   Other event winners included; Jon Platz, Jay Kramer, Heath Harmon, Dale Hotop, Grant Renne, Carl Fisher, and Dan Elder.   ...more plus results

Harrison and Misenhelter Win at Hillcrest

After taking some time off, the Champions Division was back in action today and played out at Hillcrest Country Club.  Gianna Misenhelter and Brice Harrison took home medalist honors for the 16-18 age division firing an even par 73 and a two over par 74 respectively.  In the 14-15 girl’s division, Libby Kellogg wins shooting a 91 while Matthew McIntire and Jackson Foth tie firing a 75 for the boy’s division. …more plus results

Kane Dusts Field at Sr. Open Qualifying

Jim Kane, 50 of Edmond, OK fired a 6-under par 65 to win sectional qualifying for the U.S. Senior Open Championship by four shots. Finishing second behind Kane and earning the first alternate position was Matt Seitz, 50 of Hutchinson, who shot a 2-under par 69. Gary McClure, 58 of Independence birdied the 188 yard par 3 No. 2 to win the play-off for the second alternate position over Andy Smith, 53 of Gladstone. Smith an amateur earned the honor as Low Amateur; an honor the USGA has made a celebrated tradition.  ...more plus results

Regan Wins Women's Amateur

Michelle Regan of Prairie Village shot a 36-hole total of 151 to win the Kansas City Women's Amateur.  Regan won by 2 shots over Jennifer Clark of Kansas City.....in the Players Divison, Meredith Beykirk of Overland Park continued the good play from her final nine holes of the first round ...more plus results

KC Junior Tour Wraps Up Another Day At Overland Park

Adam Lechner and Alex Larson win medalist honors shooting personal Tour bests at Overland Park.  In the Prep Division, Lechner took home medalist honors in the boy's flight firing a 9 hole total of 37, while Larson led the girl's flight with a 48.  In the Players Division Alexandra Keane earned medalist honors with an 80 in the 13-15 girl's flight and Ashley Nelson, for the second straight time, won the 16-18 girl's flight with a 86.  In the 16-18 boy's flight Brian Miller shot an 80 and Austin Lowe won the 13-15 boy's flight with a 73.   …more plus results

Yonke and Marks Qualify for U.S. Junior Amateur

Curtis Yonke of Overland Park and Ryan Marks of Warrensburg both shot a 36-hole total of 143 to qualify for the U.S. Jr. Amateur Championship...Yonke and Marks will play in the Championship July 21-26 at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, Alabama  ....more plus results

Tour Veteran Stevens Medalist

StateLine Amateur Tour perennial power Aaron Stevens of Shawnee used eight birdies today in route to an impressive 4-under par 68 to take top honors in the Open Division at WinterStone Golf Course.  Steven's score is the lowest gross score for the season on the Tour and came on a day that proved to be highly competitive for all divisions.  Other event winners include; Dana Harris, Mark Addington, Tom Leonard, Robert Fernquist, Pat Goeke, Grant Renne, Don Cox, and Craig Jorgensen.   ...more plus results

KC Junior Tour Swings into Action at Claycrest

Tanner Owen, Britani Jenson, and Adrianna Elliott all shot personal Tour bests at Claycrest. In the Prep Division, Owen took home medalist honors in the boy's flight for the third straight time firing a 9 hole total of 40, while Jenson led the girl's flight with a 52.  In the Players Division Alison Kruse earned medalist honors with an 87 in the 13-15 girl's flight and Ashley Nelson won the 16-18 girl's flight with a 92.  In the 16-18 boy's flight Nathan Graham shot an 86 and Blake Winsor won the 13-15 boy's flight with a 81....more plus complete results.  In the Champions Divison, Derek Martinez won the 16-18 boy's flight with a 75 and Carolyn Schorgl won the gir'ls flight with a 77.  The 13-15 boy's flight was won by Austin Johnson and Francie Reintjes won the girl's flight.  .....more plus complete results.

Swinford Shoots 72 to Take Medalist Honors

The KC Junior Tour had another successful day on the links out at The Country Club of Blue Springs.  The Champions Division started off the day at 8 a.m. and with the course being wet and playing long it didn’t seem to affect the players too much.  In the 16-18 Boys Division Derek Swinford of Liberty led the field with an even par 72 followed by another great score of 73 by Brice Harrison of Prairie Village.  Taking third place honors were five individuals all shooting a score of 79. ...more plus results

Cecchini Shoots 81 Taking Medalist Honors in Players Division

The Players-Prep Division started off the day at 2 p.m. In the 13-15 Boys Division Justin Cecchini of Overland Park led the field with an 81 followed by an 82 of Patrick Mcanulty of Overland Park.  Other event winners include Madyson Smith and Anne Willman in the 13-15 Girls Division, Kevin Cahill in the 16-18 Boys Division, and Paige Nawalany in the 16-18 Girls Division.  ...more plus results

Black, Owen, and Malecki Take Medalist Honors in the Prep Division

The youngsters played well this afternoon despite the long and wet course conditions.  Amanda Malecki of Overland Park took medalist honors in the Girls Division shooting a 9 hole score of 51.  In the Boys Division there was a tie for first between Tanner Owen of Parkville, and Keaton Black of Grain Valley both shooting a 9 hole score of 41.  Adam Lechner, of Kearney, was right there with Owen and Black shooting a 42.  ...more plus results

Jacob Fain and Tanner Owen Shoot Impressive Numbers to Win Their Divisions at Minor Park

Another full day of junior golf was had by all at Minor Park Golf Course in South Kansas City, Missouri. The start of the round was delayed for 30 minutes due to weather, but that wasn't an issue for Jacob Fain and Tanner Owen who shot a 74 and 41 respectively. ...more plus results

Challenge Met Watson Style

Civic leader and sports hero Tom Watson held up yet another trophy today when he won The Watson Challenge by five strokes with a 1-under par score of 215. Oddly enough, the last time Watson held up a trophy for winning a championship in his home town was 37 years ago when he won the 1971 Missouri Amateur held at none other than Milburn Golf and Country Club. “Winning this thing (pointing to the trophy) means a lot to me”, said Watson. “When I am dead and gone someday this trophy will not only have my name on it as the tournaments namesake, but also as one of its Champions.”

Swope Memorial Agrees to Host Amateur

The Kansas City Golf Association is pleased to announce that Swope Memorial Golf Course has agreed to host the first and second round of this year’s Kansas City Amateur. Swope Memorial has a long tradition of hosting quality amateur and professional competitions. Indeed, historically when the PGA played in town they played at Swope Memorial in the Kansas City Open. Most recently the course hosted the 2005 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. “We are excited to be able to play our championship at Swope”, said Steve McMillen, KCGA Executive Director. “When made the decision to move the Championship we looked at several area public courses. The tradition of Swope Memorial and the condition of the course made this an obvious choice.” The courses’ excellent condition is the result of the work of Tony Bertels, the Course Superintendent. “We think the players will find the course conditions exceeded that of the WAPL in 2005.” The KCGA staff has reviewed the course and agrees, the conditions of play will be fantastic!    ....more
